*As Sweet as Sugar*
The white sugar which we consume on a regular basis comes from sugarcane, initially which is brown and undergoes lot of chemical bleaching process to make it shining white using chlorine, caustic soda, bleaching powder, phosphoric acid etc. some of them could be extremely dangerous for our health.
Also the sugar processing goes through a process of adding or filtering through bone char. What is bone char? As the name suggests it is bone charcoal made from dried cow bones or other animal bones. This is the case in western countries and in India the information regarding this may not be available freely for obvious reasons.
Other processed foods such as jams, tomato ketchups, chocolates, biscuits, cola drinks, energy drinks, all the traditional sweet shop sweets contains refined white sugar in dangerously high quantity.
As we get older and depending upon our physical activity, our human body may or may not be able to process these sugar in the right way causing lot of illnesses, including diabetes.
Sugar is not something which we can not live without. The addiction and craving for sugar can be serious but if you want to come out of it, it is not impossible and there are better healthier alternatives such as palm sugar, honey etc. Also reducing your added sugar by 50% could be a good target to begin with.
Once we stay out of sugar (if possible stay away from even the other alternatives), many sources claim lot of health benefits such as improved dental health, improved gut health, elimination of bad bacterias from small and large intestines, improved skin health especially reduction of rashes and itchings, improved vision, improved mood and emotional stability, reduced obesity levels and much more. I found some of these claims are true myself.
In natural medicine refined white sugar is considered as poison and mother of all diseases. We may take any amount of medicines but if the real culprit is not eliminated then the problems will continue.
Food companies, medical industry and pharmaceutical companies will never tell us the truth. For them we are just consumers and they do not want to lose their business. It is up to us to experiment and find out what works and what does not work for us. 🙏
